Helen is a lecturer At the University of Newcastle Callaghan campus. She is passionate about educating the next generation of construction professionals to be better prepared for an uncertain future. She is particularly interested in seeing the number of women in the industry grow, with an emphasis on more women in senior positions.
Part of her role as an academic sees Helen researching ways in which we can improve participation rate for women in the construction industry. Helen also undertakes research in the area of disaster risk reduction with a focus on reducing vulnerability for women and children.
In her spare time Helen enjoys traveling, trivia quiz nights and hanging around the house with her cats reading.
Helen joined the WIBAS committee in 2016 and is currently initiating the role of education officer to help with outreach opportunities in local schools, with a view to improving young girls’ perceptions of the building industry. The goal being to lift the number of girls who consider a career in the industry.
